Shreveport, LA – Youth participants who were recognized as winners in the Obesity Walk photo by Paula Lott Spotlight on 2013-14 DREF Community Empowerment Grantee The Shreveport (LA) Alumnae Chapter received a Community Empowerment Grant award in the amount of $1,000 from DREF to support its 2013 Childhood Obesity Walk, an initiative designed to create awareness and en-courage prevention of childhood obesity. Chap-ter representatives stated that Shreveport Alumnae is committed to tackling the problem of childhood obesity in an effort to de-crease the onset of diseas-es triggered by obesity. For the past two years, the chapter has presented “Take a Walk with Delta: Fight Child-hood Obesity” as its first community service project of the Sorority year. The 2013 walk was held in the fall and engaged the Delta Academy, Delta GEMS and EMBODI youth along with several other local youth groups as participants.
