JOURNAL Spring 2016 s19 rade including Past Nation-al Presidents, Executive Com-mittee members, local high school bands, Prairie View A & M University Marching Band, and the local cowboys and cowgirls. Houston area and sur-rounding chapters added a special touch to the parade by hosting a “Rep Your Block” contest to add to the spirit-filled event. Bay Area Houston Alumnae, Houston Alumnae, Houston Metro-politan Alumnae, North Harris Coun-ty Alumnae, Prairie View Alumnae and Suburban Houston-Fort Bend Alumnae chapters brought ener-gy and excitement to the 10-square block parade route. “I was most proud of how Prairie View Alumnae and Prairie View A & M University represented their block of purple,” said Kristen Wells-Lewis, Regional Representative and mem-ber of Eta Beta Chapter at PVAMU. “The block was filled with adminis-trators, staff, friends, and even my own family were amongst the purple and gold crowd.” The purpose of the parade was intended to give members an outlet to fellowship with sorors from differ-ent parts of the country and across the globe before the official start of convention. “My favorite part of the parade was waving and shouting at all the folks in the parade with my sorors from all around the country,” said Dr. Karen Titsworth of Cincinnati Alum-nae Chapter. The parade committee and vol-unteers made certain that the parade was a festive and unforgettable expe-rience. s PHOTO BY DONNAMARIA JONES Comedian Nephew Tommy, from the “Steve Harvey Morning Show,” serves as Grand Marshall for the Welcome Parade.
