52nd National Convention C O V E R A G E Houston Welcomes DST with s26 “Red Hot Round Up” Welcome Event The Greater Houston Area Chap-ters filled the air with enter-tainment and sisterhood at the 52nd National Convention Welcome Event. Discovery Green Park, in the heart of downtown Houston, was transformed to Discovery “Red” Park, where it served as the focal point for the kickoff celebration on Friday, July 23, 2015. The 52nd National Conven-tion Planning Committee selected the Arts and Letters platform as the conduit to welcome sorors to Hous-ton. The GHAC collaborated with the Black American Cultural and Edu-cational DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INC. Production Group to show-case “Dancin’ in the Streets Motown Review.” “Organizing this event took a lot of hard work but it was a great plea-sure,” said Soror Rhonda Skillern- Jones, Welcome Event chair and pres-ident of Houston Independent School District School Board. “Josie Daniels (52nd National Convention Coordina-tor) had a vision and our team made it happen. MAGIC! But to no surprise, that’s what Deltas do. I am so proud of my sorors and my city.” The event featured a live band and artists that performed the great-est hits from the era of the “Motown Sound.” Soror Maria Starling, mem-ber of Houston Alumnae Chapter, served as the event’s mistress of cer-emony introducing National Pres-ident Dr. Paulette C. Walker, as well as, Past National Presidents, Honor-ary Members and Executive Board members in attendance. The Houston Area Chapter of Buffalo Soldiers presented colors in traditional uniform.
