52nd National Convention C O V E R A G E s30 “Game Changing” Collegiates DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INC. BY GLENISE A. CLOUDY On July 25, 2015, thousands of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.’s collegiate and alumnae members convened at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Hous-ton, Texas for the much anticipated Collegiate Luncheon. Appropriate-ly themed, “Game Changer,” the lun-cheon encapsulated the vision of So-ror Brittani N. Blackwell, National Second Vice President, to recognize our collegiate sorors who hold true to the ideals and principles of our 22 Founders - academic excellence and high moral character. A “game changer” is defined as “an action, person, or thing that dramatically changes the charac-ter, course, or strategy of some-thing.” Throughout the past year, So-ror Blackwell sought to inspire the “game changer” mindset within all of the collegiate sorors. The Collegiate Luncheon, led by the Collegiate Leadership, opened with Shaquira Robinson, Midwest Regional Representative, introduc-ing the dais. The welcome was giv-en by Soror Blackwell followed by greetings from the National Secretary Cheryl A. Hickmon and the chapter presidents of the collegiate hostess chapters Sorors Jacquita Johnson and Miranda McNeal. The medita-tion/ blessing, which included a poem about sisterhood, was offered by So-ror Taylor Ashley, Central Regional Representative. The focal part of the event was the keynote speaker for the luncheon, Soror Deborah Hawkes, a life coach and business transformation consul-tant in Atlanta, who was introduced by Soror Deandrea Newsome, South Atlantic Regional Representative. Soror Hawkes is the author of “Fierce, Free and Fulfilled.” She re-ceived a Bachelor of Science degree in organizational leadership and su-pervision; a Master of Business Ad-ministration degree and currently is Collegiate members and alumni members attend the Collegiate Luncheon during the 52nd National Convention.
