52nd National Convention C O V E R A G E JOURNAL Spring 2016 s31 a doctoral candidate in human be-havior. She has been a Delta for 20 years and is a member of the Mariet-ta Roswell Alumnae Chapter in sub-urban Atlanta. Soror Hawkes, who recently turned 40, said that the collegiate so-rors are “game changers” and must take a stand in their communities and become great decision-makers. She then followed with a “course of action” that included what to ex-pect in the different phases of the life span. “I really liked how Soror Hawkes put labels on each life stage from her perspective as a life coach,” said So-ror Marcina Harris, Jackson (TN) Alumnae Chapter. “Her advice like ‘test yourself’ and ‘set goals’ is so im-portant for the collegiate soror.” “The world is yours. You are just starting out, so love yourselves and develop your personal style,” said Soror Hawkes addressing sorors in their 20s. “Soror Hawkes’ speech was very helpful. She told me that I shouldn’t put on airs and more importantly you need to learn and grow and con-tinue to grow,” said Soror Toni Cook, Chi Chapter. The widely-anticipated luncheon culminated with the presentation of the DELTA Leadership Graduates and Collegiate Spotlight Sorors, the Collegiate Awards, which included the Minerva Award for Academic Ex-cellence, as well as the new “Game Changer” Awards showcasing the ex-emplary efforts of the collegiates. Soror Ebony Holmes, Gamma Nu Chapter, summarized the whole af-ternoon: “‘Game Changer’ was a re-ally unique theme and I like how the whole concept came together. Hear-ing a dynamic speaker like Soror Hawkes was an inspiration.” s Second Vice President Brittani Blackwell with Collegiate Luncheon keynote speaker Soror Deborah Hawkes.
