52nd National Convention R E G I O N A L C O V E R A G E JOURNAL Spring 2016 s63 The “Southern Gazette,” the newsletter of the Southern Region, which was distributed to every soror in attendance at the luncheon, gave a glimpse of the service, leadership and empowerment in the communities the Southern Region serves. For in-stance, the GEMS of the Douglas-Car-roll- Paulding Counties Alumnae Chapter assembled 60 sustainable, re-usable sanitary napkin kits that were distributed to young ladies in Hondu-ras and Guatemala in June. The Atlan-ta Alumnae Chapter hosted a com-munity health and wellness fair that serviced more than 400 people. Twen-ty students participated in a STEM workshop conducted by the Cen-tral North Alabama Alumnae Chap-ter. These chapters along with other chapters throughout the Southern Re-gion continue to work in their commu-nities as well as the world abroad. The Sisterhood Luncheon is more than a luncheon. It’s a time ded-icated to recognize individual sorors as well as the chapters throughout the region. This recognition is not only in the form of awards, it is also the recognition of talent. Line sisters and co-authors of “An Anthology of Sisterhood,” Sorors L.D. Wells and Francene Breakfield together recited a heartfelt poem entitled “Sisterhood is . . .” that spoke of their sisterhood bond. As Soror Turner continues to “reclaim, retrain and retain” Delta’s most valuable resource, she contin-ues to work on the individual soror. “Chapters are only as strong as each member - that member’s knowl-edge, that member’s commitment and that member’s passion for ser-vice,” states Soror Turner. “Once we invest in the personal development of each member, that member’s emo-tional bonds strengthen, they are re-invigorated to service and reactivate those feelings that brought them into the sisterhood.” s The Executive Committee with Southern Region leaders, Soror Brittany Stephenson (LEFT-CENTER), Southern Regional Represen-tative and Soror Cheryl Turner (RIGHT-CEN-TER), Southern Regional Director, during the Sisterhood Luncheon.
