Serve: Transforming Lives, Impacting Communities JOURNAL Spring 2016 s77 On Sunday, April 12, 2015, the Denver Alumnae Chapter Arts and Letters Committee hosted an exciting after-noon at the Denver Performing Arts Complex to enjoy “Motown the Musi-cal.” Attendees traveled back in time and listened to the songs that told the history of Motown founder Berry Gordy’s journey from featherweight boxer to heavyweight music mogul. His American dream launched the ca-reers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, shattered barri-ers, shaped lives and made everyone move to the R&B beat. Approximate-ly 300 Deltas and their guest attend-ed the performance. Proceeds from ticket sales, totaling close to $3,000, benefited DAC youth programs. All of the attendees had an opportunity to meet cast members after the perfor-mance, two of whom, were members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In addition, chapter members took a group picture with Sorors in the cast as well as other cast members. DAC also hosted a Motown Raffle fundrais-er and raised $10,000 for chapter pro-gramming. Chapter President Dr. Djuana Harvell. s Over 90 chapter members, commu-nity residents, and civic leaders at-tended Henry County Alumnae Chapter’s free viewing of “An Ordi-nary Hero,” April 25, 2015. Soror Joan Trumpauer Mulholland, an iconic civil rights activist and Freedom Rid-er, provided opening remarks before the viewing began. Afterwards, she led a candid Q&A session recount-ing her role in the March on Washing-ton, the Woolworth sit in and the an-ti- segregation movement. There was a panelist discussion with civil rights activist Mary Thomas and civil rights attorney Roodgine Bray.
