SummerJournal2013

Message from the National President Greetings Sorors, This is a wonderful time in the history of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The year 2013 has been quite a year to remember. So much has transpired over the past Sorority year that has made us able to say that this has truly been JOURNAL Summer 2013 s the “year of Delta!” We brought in the New Year in the Tournament of Roses Parade and launched our 22-city Delta Torch Tour under the stars of Hollywood. We celebrated the 100th anniversary of our founding in grand fashion, paying homage to our Founders’ Cynthia M. A. Butler-McIntyre spirit of service by holding 22 Impact Day service projects around the campus of Howard University. Two months later, we returned to Washington, D.C. to “retrace the footsteps of our Founders” as we participated in the 1913 Suffrage March reenactment down Pennsylvania Avenue. I can only hope that we have done all the stellar planning, preparation, and execution of our Centennial Celebration festivities their due justice in this issue of the DELTA Journal. These once in a lifetime events were just a precursor to our upcoming 51st National Convention, where we will continue to celebrate the 100-year history and legacy of this great organization. Although we had plenty of “high” moments, we also experienced a few “lows.” Our hearts ached upon hearing the news of the passing of our beloved 19th National President, Dr. Yvonne Kennedy. In this issue of the DELTA Journal, you will also get an up-close and personal look at the life of a phenomenal woman who championed the causes of all communities. Enjoy reading about the many activities your Sorority has done and the work we will continue to do in our communities. I look forward to seeing you all this summer. With a Servant’s Heart, Cynthia M. A. Butler-McIntyre National President
